T is for Tribalizing (y Tsáchilas)

Many mothers nursing their many children is a human nation; one mother nursing her own child is alienation.

One would think with the coming of propertifying civilization and the loss of depth in tribal connections, the loosed individuals would need to sharpen their sensitivity to fill in the gaps that were now missing given the loss of so much camaraderie. Instead of advancing in this fashion, to evolve into these magnificent independent individuals, humans agreed biologically to become less than they were in their unity. Disease of thought coincides with the disease of body. The lessening of oxytocin, the lessening of agility movements, the lessening of nutrient density in diets, the lessening of the range of experience by being stuck in a more localized geography—all these losses led to a lessening in sensitivity. It is both a specific and generalized desensitization, a devolution of our species affirmed by cultural institutions that would now harbor and modulate a great deal of human emotions and experiences, narrowing their actual and acceptable ranges.

The disease of imtribalism was contrived in the wintering lands where private survival, at first a means to keep surviving, became the very ends. Thus an example of when the means became the ends—ends in need of ending…

The greatest marriage is not that of a couple, but of a tribe; it does not begin with priestly words, but at beastly conception, from parents multiple, of love polyamorous, profuse—a strong web. The greatest nurture is to be raised by a multitude of parents that go far beyond your two progenitors of a stricter scientific understanding. A whittling down of the parents from forty-two to two, subtracts the child down to negative forty—it should be no wonder that raising children these days can feel as the greatest burden. The death of a tribe in a nuclear holocaust is worsted by the birth of a child in a nuclear family; if you think this hyperbole experiment with the thought that the tribe died crying together, and the baby was born among unfeeling strangers that did not reciprocate her tears, your perspective will shift profoundly.

The work that should be shared among 80 of a tribe, is now the burden of 2 parents or even 1 single parent. Zero parents—and zero children—is not long off.

Most individuals have a plurality of sides to them that are deeply flawed—missing qualities paired alongside with grand over-compensations that would have others in “the normal range” feeling vacant and flawed by comparison. These flaws are constantly revealed to the therapist and personality analyst types among us because an individual is rarely whole on their own; a conclusion these professionals are usually blind to is that an individual is an idiosyncratic puzzle piece that must have vulnerabilities and additional capacities to fit in with a more complete picture, albeit a large family or tribe. Lacking this tribe to fit in with is the great flaw, for tribe-lessness is the great disease and a puzzle that we seem farthest from solving, for truly we need others to complete us.

The more of all of us there is, the more of each of us there is.

Industrial civilization has eaten away our tribal identity and worn us down to the gradient point of having a mere individual identity (a stability unknown previously); civilization is as a thorn fixed in the side for too long, that inevitably leaves the afflicted as thin and biting as the thorn itself.

Born of 40 parents and married at original contact, instead of 2 parents and a state-sanctioned marriage contract.

 

Children, even babies, need not always be in the immediate proximity of their parents for their biological parents to feel at ease. There just needs to be a sense that there is parenting going on, which is why when corporate day cares take over childcare, there is usually some reluctance or ill-at-ease that happens with the legalized parents. This only lasts for a time, but it is a very real distinction between a bond to someone that is to share in the parenting that need not be tied with money, and a bond that is exclusively due to the medium of money being utilized. The tribe as parent and the tribe as child has been replaced with the nuclear family and biological parenting almost exclusively, and because these are such intrinsically weak models immunologically, the disease of monetary profitable daycares starts to materialize.

Religion fills the vacuum left by a lack of a tribal family—in other words there grows a lack of people to invest worship in. We are built to worship, but in lacking a secular worship opportunity (a tribe) we worship a fanciful supernatural element. We are supposed to worship one another.

Your whole self is fully realized not when it is entirely apart from the group, but when it is absolutely a part of the group.

An individualist culture that produces utterances saying “what does it matter? I’ll be dead in one hundred years” does not have much farther to devolve. Despite the individualism, the voice that echoes such words is still that of a tribe, one its throes of death; individualism is hopeless.

Reestablishing tribal societies rids us of the need to tediously parse through the ingenuous and the disingenuous actors who easily make prey of our havoc-worn world.

We are in a time of unique and unprecedented levels of grief to be absorbed by singular individuals. Put numerically, when a tribe of 80 loses 1 of their own, the 79 survivors all have one another to lean on in this tragic time, and the child/parent/lover lost was in all likelihood not the only one “specialized” in that role with relation to the other 79. Now with the nuclear family in it’s most crude form, there is a tribe of 4 each in a specialized role (without redundancy) of a mother, father, daughter and son. When one of these gets sick or injured, or dies, the vulnerable nuclear family is hurt and in death quite devastated. Tragedy exposes the very weak internal web and allows disease (lawyers, therapists, pharmaceuticals) to come and prey on a failing eco-system; tribes never needed nor allowed the emergence of these diseases because they were so strong on a blend of layers. Make no mistake—a tribe does not dilute each of it’s members to insignificance; rather, a tribe is a more evolved drink with emergent properties making it quite potent, too, available to quench the thirst of all. The tribe is not necessarily the only referent point—thinking about it that way might be a uniquely skewed view imposed on our thought by our peculiar times; tribes might be best evaluated by looking at person to person relationships in a specific time frame, judged against what we have now. Did tribal people choose to pay attention to a medium rather than a person in their immediate vicinity thirsting for interaction? It takes a village… and now a village is taken. A shared grieving process is the only grieving process.

Soul searching is often misdirected, for we are looking deep within ourselves when really it is others we are searching for.

Not knowing whose child is whose, where no lover is no one’s only lover, where one’s father is not one’s only father, where one’s child is not one’s only child. The more the merrier without the more the Malthusian mortality. More relations without more mouths to feed.

Stray from the herd you’ll find yourself living, stray from the tribe and you’ll be found dying.

I trust a people I do not know, I do not trust a person I do not know.

Laws are the blind spot of justice.

When a person is frugal the belt is tightened around their waste; when a corporation is frugal the belt is tightened around another’s neck. We haven’t executed any corporations, but they’ve executed plenty of us.

A politician echoes the interests of those 18 years and older who might vote; a leader hears the interests of those 17 years and younger who may never vote.

If a thing has no intrinsic value, then its propagation is sure to do intrinsic harm on the value of others.

If your revolution has few elements of joy contained within as viewed from the perspective of its vanguard, then what power does it have to attract a full investment on the part of the rest of the society? Harken to the words of Red Emma regarding dance, and dare not conflate joy with the ephemeral and empty promises of possessions that keep misery in oscillation.

Self-absorption is the implosion of any space for a self to emerge.

A martyr is usually co-opted by a prime institution of power of which the martyr’s death was essentially in opposition to. Jesus’s co-optation by the Church is just such an example we can witness today.

The touch screen is mightier than the pen is mightier than the sword is mightier than the lot of us; what increasing sophistication cages us these sunless days.

Civilization has maimed us and so civilization has named us. Regrowth is not precluded, and injury is not death! Fight back with all that remains, and gift yourself a nom de guerre—a name such that within is symbolized your war against naming itself.

A man robs a bank and the man is imprisoned; a bank robs the world and the world is imprisoned.

Lack of a refuge does not erase the refugee. Erasing a house does not erase the home if a group is shouldered by the tribal.

That which you get used to you will inevitably get used by.

Those involved with Christianity are mostly X-centric. Happier to dwell on the death of a great man and its ramifications for them personally as opposed to the life of a great man and what it exemplifies as a corrective to the western way of being.

A fish out of the water is today’s dinner, and a human off the land is tomorrow’s breakfast.

Police yourself with the laws of an oppressive society, and you are under the dome of the state; police yourself with your own laws, and you are living in freedom. So says a Kantian anarchist.

I pledge allegiance to liberty and justice for all. Quietly protest the rest, with gusto!

The primary difference between capitalism and fascism is the spelling.

Our fears for our health in this life allows entry for the parasitical medical industrial complex, just as our fears for our health in the after life allows entry for the religious industrial complex. What unadulterated life is there to turn towards but a fearless life?

Deep Skin

There is a lot of indications of what humans intrinsically are—and what potentials we hold—if we even only focus on our skin. The lack of profound hair shielding our skin tells us we are not intended bodily to be in the colder climates, and presumably the physical abilities we would need to perform well in a cold climate go well beyond a mere patch fix like clothing (or even evolving bodily hair). Simply viewing the advent of clothing, or the whiteningL of the skin, is a simple cause and effect view of the human body that would deny a holistic understanding that our skin system evolved (or didn’t evolve) to deal with certain climates and other features of an environment along with the rest of our body systems; sometimes one bodily system strives ahead (or downgrades quicker) masking a deficiency in other realms, such as our not yet evolving hibernation capacities. The white skin example I think shows our bodies making the best of a bad situation more than a true adaptation; white skin by itself does not provide all that is needed to deal with a colder climate, and in fact may be an indication of a lack more than anything to heighten the overall functioning of the human. When humans are caught or ensnared in an unfavorable environment, our technologies and our bodies might adapt over time, but never (or not yet, as it may take many millions of years) to the degree to make us as thriving as we were in the naturally best environment from which we had strayed. So we’ve gotten to a meta-stable, survivable position, one that can be maintained so long as we keep our education intact to broadly teach the non-instinctive survival skills (those that must be learned). So long, too, as we keep in balance and not in an over-reaching of the natural resources that can support these inefficient energy demanding lifestyles that are inherent to the human animal outside of its balanced scope.
So back to skin (including the skin on our back!). Our exposed skin might at first sight seem like a vulnerability, and indeed it is if you throw us in to a harmful chemically laden environment, a photonically dangerous environment, or a thermally disharmonic environment—all environments we’ve imposed on ourselves. However, I think that to think of skin as a vulnerability would be an ahistorical view that fails to grasp what would have been very advantageous millennia ago in not just a different climate, but also a very different social environment. When we were in primordial tribes (quite different than Hobbes’s “cold, brutish, and short” depiction, which was really a projection more accurately describing his own gloomy time in 17th century England) our skin was our cellular membrane, the rest of us the internals to a single cell in a multi-cellular milieu of many other persons. Lots of sex and cuddling would surely be understatements for some of the most common activities occupying these deep ancestors of ours. The body language of our modern times is presumably sophomoric and underdeveloped compared to the potentials of bodies communicating sans clothing, arbitrary taboos and restrictive cultural norms. Two (or more) bodies physically touching on a plurality of points, whether sexually or in a normal state of interaction (potentially playful), would communicate vastly more and on many different experiential levels than some ad hoc utterances used to representatively convey internal states. The immediacy of bodily contact makes mediated linguistic contact both inefficient (due to its narrow and restricted uses, and that it must be learned and doesn’t make use of the suite of hormones and multiple senses—merely the auditory sense) and unattractive—only domesticated encaged dogs bark, it is reported; voices would be saved for singing and other harmonizations that synthesized concurrently with other actions.
Absorptive skin would allow minerals, vitamins, and moisture to be gotten transdermally, and toxic metabolites and compounds would be more easily gotten rid of through the skin without the risk of re-absorption due to clothing blocking a full exfoliation, alleviating some of the workload on the other cleansing systems. The vibrations and other indications of existence and change emanating from one’s environment would not be dampened and muffled by clothing, but would more immediately be appreciated and responded to accordingly. For example think of the time difference to realize it is raining when you have several times more skin exposure ready to feel the rain, such as when laying (almost or completely) naked at the beach, or able to feel the humidity changes, versus in full dress with just hands and face exposed.
Our bodies long for this heightened contact, both with other humans as well as other natural temperature appropriate objects, and it has been the job of our culture to train our brains and build dilapidated muscle memories that deafen our ability to hear what our bodies yearn for. A full deafness would be akin to death, and we have not yet reached this low point and fully repress every true bodily need and desire. People still choose monogamy and/or a pet to reach a lower but stable “meta-stable” position where their needs are malnourished but not totally unnourished. Dogs and cats, which do not offer nearly the skin contact nor other affections that we truly need, keep many from breaking down (and possibly breaking out) from these silly relations; surely domesticated pets offer some infrared and other mammalian love energy, but it is not the potency which our bodies truly demand to thrive. Thus we are left to atrophy as humans are simply not available to most of us, due to the responsibilities imposed by inherited cultural requests for separatism, economic requests for being away from situations conductive for interaction (i.e. the work environment), and other divisive forces devised to try and convince humans they are not animals. This end, where humans are so devoid and alien to love that we don’t even have energies to seek for it, is what we are creeping towards by the generation. There have been many stark indicators, such as the peculiar platonic ways of the Puritans in the western context, and probably many more examples that any of us would usually not pay a second thought to. We are in many ways further along this path of bodily alienation (considering social media “social”) than even these fundamentalist groups, though a confusing cultural collage filled with visualizations of the tabooed actions would make us think we are quite sexualized.
The longer we winter ourselves in cold climates and even colder cultural clothing, the longer we should expect the winters to be; waiting for life is to prematurely introduce death. Thriving is taken off the table, and mere surviving is the best we can hope for.

LI didn’t make the time to research the specifics of the skin whitening to determine if has been shown to be either a more efficient skin type for lower sunlight environments, or a result due to long term lack of sun, or another adaptation that serves to do damage control for losses incurred on a hairless animal that was previously in a sun-rich environment. This is one of many shortcuts I’m afraid I will have to make in the upcoming years as “perfection becomes the enemy of good enough”.
